The purpose of competitions at Randolph Heights is to provide an opportunity for academically strong students to  interact with other students of a similar caliber and interest, in a real-world setting. The "winning" of the contest is secondary to the experience itself. Gifted and talented students need the challenge offered by competitions and thrive while engaged in the process.

The competitions include Destination Imagination, Continental Math, Math Masters, the Young Inventors Fair, and the Kids Philosophy SLAM, to name a few. Most competitions are under the direction of the Gifted Services specialist Specialist. Students also compete in contests under the direction of the classroom teacher or another specialist.

Our students have been Regional winners in the Continental Math contest, Math Masters, and  many presenters at the Young Inventor's Fair. In 2008, we had the Most Philosophical First Grader in the country!!
