A.M -P.M Schedule Discovery Club in the Morning We open our doors at 6:30 am. When children arrive at Discovery Club they can choose from a variety of activities. We offer puzzles, games, books, toys, art projects, and a chance to be on one of the computers. At 7:45 am. the children also have the choice of going to the gym or outside. At 8:40 they have the option of going to the cafeteria for the school's breakfast or staying in the main room for playtime. Our morning ends when we dismiss the children for school at 8:55 am. Afternoon Discovery Club Our afternoon begins as soon as school gets out. The 4 year olds and kindergarteners are picked up by our group leaders and brought to the portable for snack. After snack, they go outside for about 20 - 30 minutes. The 1st –6th graders meet their group leader at the back playground door. They check – in with their leader then play on the playground until their group is called for snack. After snack they return to the playground until about 4:20. Once our outside time is over, the kids divide into their age appropriate groups. A group consists of up to 15 kids to 1 adult. Each group uses room 1403 (Discovery Club’s main room), the portable, the gym, room 2403, and room 2402. Once the kids are in their group, they have quiet time. During quiet time the kids can do homework and read. After quite time the have group time. During group times the children will participate in group discussions, large and small muscle activities, planned art projects, cooking, and programs such as Second Step. Second Step teaches empathy and respect through discussions, acting out situations, and pictures. We also will be focusing more on reading, both individually and with our leaders, this year. At 5:30 we all come back together for choice and reading time until our parents come.
