Second Grade Teachers Ms. Hable and Mr. Keith
Walk into our second grade classroom and enter a world of discovery and learning.
We begin each day with a morning meeting, that centers around community building activities. We reach out actively to engage our families in their child's second grade experience through volunteering in the classroom, going on field trips, working on special classroom projects and events.  Parents are invited to author's publishing celebrations where children share their written craft. A strong relationship is created between school, families.

From the very first day of school we work with students and parents to create a truly unique learning experience for children. Our student delegates gather to write and debate our Class Constitution in the spirit of our founding fathers. We go back in time to ride the underground railroad, to experience immigration, to relive our great American history.
We travel to many distant lands to learn about ancient and current
cultures. Step into our classroom and you may find yourself walking with us along the Great Wall of China, swimming in  the sacred Ganges River,

Second graders read Core Knowledge poems to Pre-Kindees
or tasting a Greek delicacy. We bring the world into our classroom.

We also go into the world. Gaze into the sky during one of two visits to the planetarium.  Sit back and enjoy authentic Chinese dancers and the classic Nutcracker Ballet. Feel the beat of Taico drumming at the Stepping Stone Theatre.  Discover the beauty of ancient art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Unearth the possibilities, including ancient fossils found in our city.

Our students engage in personalized learning in reading and writing workshops. In the fall they read with volunteers in Book Club weekly. Students read books that fit their interest and reading level. As authors our students learn to write a variety of genres and publish several pieces each year. In addition our math curriculum meets children at all learning levels.

Together our children and families will remember second grade as a special, unforgettable year of learning and fun.
