Welcome to the sixth grade at Randolph Heights Elementary. Mrs. Sandy Bertz and Mr. Joe Flahavan are your student’s classroom teachers. We will work closely with you to ensure that your student succeeds in sixth grade. We promise to make your child’s classroom experience rewarding and fun. Teaching kids takes teamwork. The entire staff at Randolph Heights is committed to your student’s progress. Your child’s success in school depends on your encouragement and example.
Your sixth grader will be embarking on an exciting adventure in learning. We also will be preparing for a successful transition to the junior high experience. Our journey begins with an assessment of your child’s prior learning. This allows us to continue the progress made in prior grades. We will continue to use Accelerated Reader, Core Knowledge, Every-day Math, Readers' Workshop, Responsive Classroom and Writers' Workshop.
EXPECTATIONS & CLASSROOM RULES
Sixth graders are the student body leaders and are expected to set examples for the younger students. In the classroom, they will be responsible for their assignments and expected to ask for help if needed.
We believe in hard work and having fun while we learn. We insist on good behavior, accountability for actions, honesty, and most importantly, respect for all. The entire Randolph Heights Elementary staff is committed to each child’s achieving his or her goals.
However, students who fall significantly behind in their work or fail to comply with classroom rules will receive a consequence and their parents will be notified. The following rules set the acceptable standard of conduct for every sixth grader.
-
Students will be respectful of other students, teachers and other adults.
-
Students will follow the directions of their teacher.
-
Students will complete schoolwork and assignments on time.
-
Students will be attentive and participate in class.
The sixth grade will be going on a number of field trips during the upcoming school year. These trips will complement the subjects your student will be expected to master. Two of these trips reward your student's progress and completion of his or her sixth grade experience. Past classes consistently choose the trips to Afton Alps and Valleyfair as their most memorable experiences in sixth grade.
