Procedures: Team selection & Game Play 40 MINUTES 1. Welcome class. 2. Introduce the agenda for the day. 3. Tell them the information they will learn today may be on a test at the end of the unit. 4. Tell the students they will break up into 4 teams. 5. Choose the teams based on ability level and gender. 6. Inform the students they will be playing a soccer game and you expect proper behavior on the playing fields. Remind the student this is a team game and they will be more successful as a team if they play like one. 7. Tell the students they may be playing on a field that will require themselves to run the game. Remind the students of the rules they have learned and inform the students they will have much more fun if they are playing in cooperation regarding team play and officiating themselves. 8. Be sure to switch which game you are officiating often to make sure they games are progressing well and proactively. 9. Tell the students you will blow the whistle once in a while and you then want them to switch their positions quickly (fullback can become a forward, goalie can become a forward, etc.). 10. Tell them they may not ‘blast’ the ball at any time. They need to remember the way they were taught to properly kick a soccer ball and they should be in control of the ball at all times. 11. Begin the games. 12. Circulate often between both games. If a student cannot play (doctor’s note, etc.), they can help referee the games.
Procedures: Conclusion 5 MINUTES 1. Ask the students if they all had the chance to play every position. 2. If they did not, tell those students they need to make those positions a priority next time. 3. Survey the students for the proper names of each position, the goals of each position, and where each position should be found on a soccer field. 4. Ask if there are any questions. 5. Ask the students if they had fun. 6. Dismiss the class.
