Welcome to the principal's office...

I'm Dr. Nancy Flynn, principal of Randolph Heights School. For the past seven years I've had the privilege of working with an extraordinary group of teachers, staff, students, parents and community members, dedicated to continually strengthening our tradition of excellence. We are continually implementing

best practices in all areas of the curriculum.

Seven years ago, we adopted the Core Knowledge Curriculum and began teaching the sequence in American and world history, and geography. In the past few years, we've added the Core Knowledge sequence in visual arts, literature, science, and music,

and have recently been recognized as an official Core Knowledge school. Core Knowledge is a solid, specific, shared core curriculum designed to help students establish strong foundations of knowledge. Knowledge is power. We believe in giving our students the tools they need to be competent, successful

and productive citizens in a democratic society. Knowledge is the great social equalizer.

In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, we offer many enrichment activities throughout the year. This year one of our second graders placed first in the national Philosophy Slam, one of our sixth grade

Math Masters Teams placed third in the region, two of our fifth graders' inventions were chosen for the state competition, and seven of our second graders won national honors in the National Geography Challenge.

Our fourth graders write, produce, and perform an original opera, our fifth and sixth

graders perform a musical, and our kindergartners enchant us with their Valentine production. We have band concerts, a talent show, and an all-day track and field extravaganza, to name a few of our additional enrichment activities..

We also believe strongly in experiential learning off campus.

Our fifth graders spend three days and two nights at Eagle Bluff Environmental Camp each spring, our sixth graders spend a day learning to ski at Afton Alps, and our first grade students spend a day with animals at Hugo Farm. And of course, one of the great perks of being a principal is being able to

learn right alongside the students - from the high ropes and archery to playing the drums and knitting.

We also have engaging PTA-sponsored family events in the evening such as the annual dance and silent auction, the ice cream social, the book fair, and movie night. Other evening events include

family math, science, and literacy nights.
